K2 reference oscillator test

wsm-3
Hi
I am building my second K2 and have a problem, which is no supprise,
considering my age (74) and lack of eyesight!
I'm doing the PLL reference oscillator range test. Alignment test
part 2.

When I tap band plus I get a reading of 12099.53 mhz, but when I tap
band minus, nothing changes, even if I hold band minus nothing
changes. the frequency stays on 12099.53

The band minus key works fine for changing bands, and if I hold band
minus it goes to the stor 9-0 menu. So this leads me to believe the
problem is not the switch, but somewhere on the control board.
Any ideas?
thanks
Scott N5SM

Re: K2 reference oscillator test

Scott,

Set the K2 to CAL FCTR and do the following.
First, check the voltage at U5 pin 7 while pressing the BAND+ and BAND-
buttons.
If that pin changes from near zero to above 4 volts, then that output is OK.
Next check is at U6 pin 3 - the behavior should be the same as that at
U5 pin 7 because they should be connected.
If all is OK this far, go on to the next check which is at U6 pin 1.
The voltage swing should be about twice what was found at U5 pin 7.

If you do not have the proper voltage swing at U6 pin 1, then check the
thermistor board - the most probable problem there is a solder bridge.

You should also check the soldering of R19, RP2, D16 and D17.  Be
certain D16 and D17 are oriented correctly.
