Everything was normal until I got to "VCO Alignment" in part 2. Prior to
filling out the "VCO Voltage Readings" table, I was told to change bands to 80 meters and set the VFO to 4000 kHz and to adjust L30 for 6 volts at R30. Everything was great. Adjusting L30 felt good and lots of range but when I measured the voltage at R30 for the other bands, things didn't look so good. Here is what I measured. 80m 2.4 and 6.0 40m 7.9 and 7.9 30m 7.9 and 7.9 20m 2.4 and 4.1 17m 3.1 and 3.3 15m 7.9 and 7.9 12m 4.0 and 4.4 10m 3.3 and 4.1 As you can see, the voltages are a bit high. The instructions say that I can adjust the range up and down by tweaking L30 but it has no affect on any band except 80M. The frequency at TP1 is 6828.xx and it does not change when the VFO knob is changed. CAL PLL results in an INFO 232 message. Does anyone have any idea where I should start? -- John [K7SVV] _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. John,
All bands look OK except 40, 30 and 15 meters. So the PLL is working, and the VCO is working. That would indicate that you most likely have something wrong in the VFO Range selection area - either a relay or a capacitor. Check C73 first because it is common to all the failing bands and not used on any other band you have installed - be certain it is 47 pF (marked 470) and is well soldered the frequency you report sounds suspiciously like you soldered a 470 pF capacitor (marked 471) at C73. Also check the soldering for relays K13, K14 and K15. Solve this problem first before moving on to anything else like CAL PLL. The frequency you need to read at TP1 when the K2 is tuned to 7000 kHz is somewhere close to 11915 kHz. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Everything was normal until I got to "VCO Alignment" in part 2. Don,
Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle. You hit it right on the head. C73 is a marked as a 471. Thank you! Glad to hear that it was that easy.
