Bernie,
The diffuser will do its job (spread light) even with the material bowed -
do nothing to correct it, it is not broken.
The resistance readings at J1 pins 16 and 17 should be the same as that
measured at U1 pins 2 and 1 (the signals are the same, and these points ar
connected). Re-measure and if you find a discrepancy, re-check your
soldering or measure some resistors to verify that your DMM is reading
correctly (you may want to replace the DMM batteries before drawing any
conclusions).
