I have a weird problem. I'm running my K2 about 10 watts into an amplifier.
When I am in a ragchew QSO on CW, the K2 stops keying after about 60-90 seconds. In other words it doesn't go into TX at all. I get an elecraft message on the display and my Split operation disappears After I wait for about 15 seconds turn split again , the K2 works fine until the next 90 seconds. Where do I look ? Same thing happens if I run the K2 barefoot, 10 watts without the amp. Thanks for any reply Rich W3ACO S/N 4023. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. It sounds like a power supply problem. I would look at the voltage you are
supplying both at the supply itself and in the K2's display and watch it. I've seen people that use too small wire or have a bad connection to the K2 and as you pull current it heats up the connection and creates a voltage drop and the K2 will then reset. Rich,
Anytime you see the Elecraft message in the display it means that somehow the voltage supplied to the K2 has dropped significantly. Check your power supply wiring. Use 16 guage wire or larger and be certain all the connections are tight and the connector that plugs into the K2 is properly soldered to the wires. There are a few components in the K2 that could be at fault - the series diode or resettable fuse in the +12 volt line are the prime suspects, but they seldom fail themselves - virtually all problems of that sort can be traced to a bad solder connection in the power wiring. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I have a weird problem. I agree with Don (as almost always :-) ). The other thing that comes
to mind is to ask if you have remembered to re-tighten the screws securing the PA transistors to the heat sink. This sounds like it could be a failure due to overheating PA transistors. Over that period of time, with a loose heat sink, this situation could come up... Now its time for the contest...
