K2 - strange audio issue

djmd
Well, ya fix one thing, and find another one... :P

OK, this is gonna be hard to explain, probably harder to diagnose, but I'm gonna put this out here anyway. When operating the K2, occasionally I hear a sound in the headphones for typically less than a second.. might happen a couple times in a minute, maybe not at all for 10. What it really sounds like is an unmodulated carrier... like somone REALLY close is keying up an AM transmitter but not talking. The sound is several dBs higher than the normal audio on the K2. Sometimes it's borderline startling. I'm pretty sure it's being internally generated, as the 'sound' doesn't appear on the S meter. It happens on all bands. Maybe the AGC circuit is wacking out?

Any suggestions are appreciated... thank you!

I have received a couple of direct replies - thanks for the insight.

I did leave out a couple details about the problem. I did not notice it until after I installed the KAT2.

But also, I had never really used headphones for more than a minute or two until the day I started hearing this. I prefer the speaker when I'm at home, but this day was the first day I took it out in the field and I used the headphones...

To make matters even weirder, I listened to the K2, in the phones, for about a half hour last night, and it never happened.

I will report if (when) it comes back...
