K2 tx audio

john-49
Hi everyone, can someone direct me to a set of instructions that is step by step to setting up the tx audio on the K2? The one I have here is TOO bassy with the Hiel hand mic and after reading and confusing myself so many times the manual, just was to be able to adjust the audio for just a few more highs, now I know there isa a way to do it but I just cannot seem to get it right, any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The manual covers the procedure very well.  You can find a downloadable
version and then use the PDF viewer for search within.  Good luck!

I think John may have been looking for some suggested settings to try. Heil actually has some recommendations on its website for some Yaesu, Icom and Kenwood rigs, but they don't translate very readily to the K3.

How is your SSB FL1 filter passband aligned?  The position of the
passband will make a big difference in how the K2 sounds on the air.
The procedure in the manual will get the filters close, but may not be
optimum for your K2.
For best results use Spectrogram and position the passband between
markers set at 300 Hz and 2600 Hz if you have the 2.4 kHz OP1 filter -
if you have the older 2.1 kHz filter, use markers at 300 and 2300 Hz.

If that is not enough information about how to do the filter alignment
using Spectrogram, take a look at my website www.w3fpr.com - article on
K2 Dial Calibration.  Part 3 of that article covers the filter alignment.

Try the filter alignment first, and if you still have too much bass,
change KSB2 C32 and C34 to smaller values.  I have used 0.47 uF for C34
and somewhere in the range of .0033 to .005 uF for C32 and found it
works well.  This change is documented in the list of K2 mods (official
and unofficial), and this is one of the unofficial ones.

Hi John,
I too found the K2 TX audio too bassy. If you look here you will find a modification
to capacitor value in the KSB2 which helps lighten things up.

Julian,

He was asking about the K2 - not the K3.
