K2 voltmeter

wsm-3
Hi
K2 #5846
Well here I go showing my ignorance again!

I'm trouble shooting the volt meter in my K2. It works fine on
reading internal voltage, but doesn't work at all on external
voltage. Have re-soldered all the joints on the control board and
check R9 which is connected to pin 2 of P7 and to pin 5 of U3B.
I get nothing across R9, as in open circuit. I'm checking it in
circuit, but shouldn't I get some kind of resistance reading across
it with a meter?
Thanks
Scott N5SM

RE: K2 voltmeter

Scott,

If the K2 display indicates the power source voltage with the jumper set to
'INT', then all of the circuitry is being used and is wired correctly - the
only thing left is the jumper, P5 and the probe itself.

How are you trying to use the wire probe?  Do you have the jumper set for
'EXT'?
Does it measure voltages inside the K2?  If so, it is working fine - if not,
then check the wire and the crimp pin - is the crimp pin making good contact
with pin 1 of control board P5?  Did you put the crimp pin in the correct
side of the housing (The crimp pin with the wire should be closest to the
right side panel).  If you are attempting ot make measurements outside the
K2, you will need to add a wire in the ground side of P5.
