K2 with Digi Keyer

Rudi-2
Hello FM,

My K2 is wire for Yaesu microphone I use the yellow cable to use my head
set.

I have now the USB Digi Keyer from Microham.

The cable DB15-EL-K2 says that my board must be jumpered for MH2, MD2 or
Proset K2.

Is the any other solution so that I can keep my Yaesu microphone or my head
set with the yellow cable .

All info is welcome.

Rudi,

The problem is the cable coupled with your microphone selection.
You can do one ot two things.  Rewire your microphone plug and the K2
mic configuration header to match the Elecraft pinout  - by the way, the
bias resistor is not required for the MicroHam cable, so Joe could
expand the list of microphone wirings that are usable to include Kenwood
Dynamic mics as well as Heil mics with a Kenwood adapter..

OR, you can re-wire the MicroHam cable's 8 pin Foster plug  to match
your Yaesu microphone pinout.  That solution would allow you to keep
your microphones as they are.
The changes you need to make in the Fostor plug are:
Move PTT Ground from pin 8 to pin 5
Move PTT from pin 2 to pin 6
Move AF In from pin 1 to pin 8
(AF Ground should stay at pin 7).

Re: K2 with Digi Keyer

Hi All,

Folowing on from this I also have a digi keyer. I would prefer to wire the K2 for use with the digi keyer as their instructions.

I also have a Heil proset with the HC5 element. This is currently set up for Yaesu radios. IMV I would prefer to change the wiring for the Proset.

Does any one konw what the changes to the wiring would be?
Would this proset work well with the K2?
I realise that there is a proset for the K2 already , but what is the differance between the stard heil Proset and the K2 one?

Gary,

You can use the Heil Proset by either changing the K2 microphone
configuration header to match your microphone pinout, or you can use the
Elecraft pinout for the mic configuration header (all jumpered straight
across) and use the Kenwood adapter with your microphone.

The biggest difference between the Heil Proset with the HC5 element is
the output level.  The Proset-K2 uses an electret element for greater
output level.  The HC5 element is a dynamic type and has a lower than
normal output level.  You may need a mic preamp to use the HC5 with the
K2, particularly on the higher bands where the transmit gain is lower.
With the KPA100 installed, it usually is not a problem.

See the KSB2 manual for information on wiring the K2 microphone
configuration header.

Hi Don,
Thanks for that :)
You've answered my question exactly. I do have the KPA 100 so will be addeding that in due course.
I'll change the wiring on the Proset to match the K2.
I just think it will be easier to change that rather than the Digikeyer lead :)
