I have been using my Microkeyer so far on DATA & contests with the K2 audio
output fed from the front panel headphone jack (with an adaptor to take the headphones as well). But I really would prefer to take a fixed audio output from the K2 elsewhere, back to the Microkeyer. Microham in the wiring diagram supplied with their Microkeyer advocate just taking a shielded double line from J5 in the K2 (? back of product detector?) to a new stereo jack mounted on the K2 rear chassis. I believe however that Don (W3FPR) & Tom Hammond developed a mod which included an audio amplifier IC for the same purpose & mounted it initially on the K2 side panel & later, or the Control Board. This is obviously more complicated & I wonder if anyone has tried the much simpler MicroHAM solution? The W3FPR modification is certainly a better mod technically. It is necessary with passive interfaces and low sensitivity sound cards. The current microHAM interfaces include a preamplifier for their internal sound cards that provide sufficient sensitivity for the low level at J5 in the K2. Were it me, I would consider the W3FPR amp mod (or other buffer amp) in order to assure that any problem external to the K2 (e.g., shorted or improperly connected cable) did not cause loss of performance. The microHAM connection provides an easy way to get going quickly with minimum parts/soldering. 73, ... There are no boards or kits available, but the circuit is easy enough to
build on perfboard - it is simply an LM386 amplifier stage.
