K2 with external amplifier?

info4mjs
Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the K2 (without the 100W option) driving a power amp, solid state (like an SGC, Ameritron, or an Icom) or tube (of the single 3-500Z variety).

Thanks in advance.

Re: K2 with external amplifier?

Hi Mike,

I use my K2/100 to drive an Ameritron ALS-600 solid state
amp and it works very nicely with this caveat...the T/R relay
in the amp is too "slow" to follow the T/R switching from the
K2. I solved the problem by purchasing the Ameritron
QSK-5 pin diode switch (expensive but gives you true
QSK at the full output of the amp). K6XX on this reflector
has another approach to this problem which involves a
simple modification to the relay in the amp.

Also, at one time, I believe Wayne was going to look at
lengthening  the time between the T/R line going low and
RF output from the K2.

73 and good luck,
Doug
