K3-0 to K3 Upgrade Kit ???

hf4me
Seems like I remember this being asked but did not catch the answer.

Can the K3-0 be "upgraded/converted" to the K3?
In the future?

Thanks es 73, de Jim KG0KP

Not at this time. Possibly in the future, but just the front panel and
case can be reused.

Is possible in the future for K3/0 to have a build-in power supply?

Re: K3-0 to K3 Upgrade Kit ???

Hi Daniel,

No,not at this time. But the K3/0 can be powered externally from a small
500 mA wall wart 12-15VDC supply. We may offer one of these shortly.

The K3/0 gets its power via the rear 12V RCA jack that was originally
used for 12V OUT on the regular K3. It does not use the APP connectors.

Re: K3-0 to K3 Upgrade Kit ???

Mitch Wolfson, DJØQN / K7DX
Eric,

Wouldn't the RemoteRig's wall wart be enough to power both the RRC and
K3/0 using a pigtail adapter, or even better though the RRC's AUX/MIC
connector (which I believe you already use anyway to pass the microphone
input to the front panel)?

It provides 1 amp, in able to power TS-480 and other external heads
using the AUX/MIC connector, as well as the minimal current required by
the RRC. This would provide a cleaner portable setup.

Re: K3-0 to K3 Upgrade Kit ???

Mitch Wolfson, DJØQN / K7DX
Correction....the TTL connector is used to power the remote heads, not
the AUX/MIC connector. I looked at the wrong RRC (a Yaesu Twin one
instead of TS-480) when I wrote that.

So a pigtail or a cable between TTL and the K3/0 would be a possible
solution to an extra power supply for the K3/0?

Re: K3-0 to K3 Upgrade Kit ???

Oliver Dröse
Hi Mitch,

probably a question of what the K3/0 expects. The RRC only puts out 8/9 V.
If that is enough for the K3/0 (maybe expecting 12 or 13,8 V?) then surely a
fine solution. ;-))

Voltage *is* available on the AUX/MIC connector, too, as that is used for
the IC-706 remote head connection. ;-))

Hi Olli,

Then back to the pigtail.....I would think 1 amp would be enough to
power both the K3/0 and RRC.
