K3/10 OUTPUT POWER

Dale Parfitt
I have one of the new SPE Expert amps on order:
http://www.linear-amp.com/

It requires 20W of drive for full output. Can one of the knowledgeable K3
designers/testers comment on nominal Po from 160-->6M?

Tnx,
Dale W4OP

Drive power for the Expert 1K-FA amplifier
is "Typically 20W"  for full output.  Typically.
I would think it ambitious to expect full output
with just 20 watts drive.  Just my opinion.

I've been seeing about 14-15 watts but have not checked on 6m yet.  Will do so this
evening and report back.

So far every contact has reported a very nice clean signal.  Excellent CW note and
audio quality using the 2.8 kHz filter for SSB TX.  The TX EQ really makes a
difference as well.

It would certainly violate the FCC's requirement in 97.317 of 15 dB
maximum gain (although with the loosening of amp restrictions I can't
understand why they left that one in place).

Why not drive it at 10W and get a cleaner output?
