Put the rig together in about 7hrs of continual (contest like)
assembly. No problems at all. Things went together like a Swiss Watch. Had to go bed sometime, but before then played with the final result. Very impressive, and I'm sure that how good it is will only grow with time. Well done guys. Now need to complete the calibration. Only slight negative is that there should be a few more flat black case screws supplied as spares. Exact amount needed supplied, however I am sure that I will lose one or two when I open the case to show off the craftsmanship... More to follow. 73 Stewart G3RXQ _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. If you are going to be taking them apart so often to show folks :o) perhaps some nice black knurled thumb screws would be in order.

Knowing you've ended up with the exact parts count is a tremendous stress reliever. When I am faced with seeing extra hardware after construction is complete, I am left wondering if the pieces were missed somewhere during the assembly routine. If you count them beforehand and know you had a couple of extras it's not a problem. Also if Ernesto or Marina (or whoever is filling the bag) is working to the exact number, there is bound to be the odd time when they make a mistake and you're a screw short, which is a pain if you then have to wait for Elecraft to send one. If they are intending to put in a couple extra, you're not going to end up short (unless they've had a really bad day). BTW I always wondered what happened to Marina after Stingray ended. Glad she found gainful employment :)

I had lots of spares screws of the variety I have lots of......
A few spare (rare) case screws would be appreciated. Now everything is calibrated I'm off to make my first SSB QSO with the rig. I'd be willing to pay a 10 to 15 dollar adder for knurled knobs that allow

Brett,
Try McMaster-Carr (www.mcmaster.com) PN 91185A221 4-40 1/4 inch long with a plastic knurled head 5/16 diameter and 11/64 inch high. They only come in boxes of 100, so you would have some to share. 73, Don W3FPR Brett Howard wrote: > I'd be willing to pay a 10 to 15 dollar adder for knurled knobs that allow > one to take the top of quickly and easily to show off the guts... McMaster-Carr has what you want. Figure out (from the inventory) what size and length(s) you need, and then visit www.mcmaster.com - search for "knurled screw" You *probably* want a thumb screw with shoulder, but maybe not. You might want to put a flat washer under the head to protect the finish. 73 de chris K6DBG _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
