[K3] 440 Hz CW Pitch - Wow!

W4JBB
I had been meaning to change the CW pitch on my K3 since I read about it
on the reflector a while back. I finally changed it this morning from
around 650 or 660 down to 440 Hz. All I can ask is, "Why did I have it
at 650 or 660 Hz and why did it take me so long to move it down?!"

I'm listening to a QSO between W5EIU and N4DCH and... Well, just wow!

Joel - W4JBB

Yep, I saw that same post and tried lower tones the other day.  For now I settled at 500 Hz, like the improvement (over my old 650) and may go lower.

I saw that information and concluded that it did not apply to my ears.
I would suggest that anyone who wants to experiment to tune into a CW
signal and alter the pitch to that which is most beneficial to their
ears.  Then use an audio Spectrum Analyzer running into a computer
soundcard (such as Spectrogram - download a good copy from my website
www.w3fpr.com) to see what pitch is being received.
I have done that a number of times and have concluded that 570 Hz is the
best for my ears, but each person is a bit different, decide for
yourself and let your ears tell you what is best for you.
