Phil I don't know what microphone you are using, but these settings give
pretty good AM on transmit with a Kenwood MC-43S microphone:
Power 100W (gives around 27 Watts carrier on 80m).
CMP 15
MIC 30 (FP.H in MENU).
Mod on my scope is approaching 100%.

My K3 has wonderful audio on SSB. Tried AM for the first time this morning
and had lots of carrier but only 30% modulated. Before I start playing,
what do you recommend to do it right the first time.
