K3 Auto Spot vs CWT

k6dgw
Hi All,

I have a very flat learning curve, so I take it one function at a time.
Lots of functions in my K3, it's going to take awhile to get through
all of them :-)

Today's function was Auto-Spot.  I've been using CWT exclusively.  Today
on ECN, I tapped SPOT on Kevin and the frequency changed just a little.
When I transmitted, the sidetone sounded to my damaged ears like I was
dead zero beat with him.  However, the CWT bar flickered down one notch
about half the time.  Kevin was running between 429 and 559, readable
all the time except in quick deep fades, and not a lot of noise.  What
noise there was was taken out by the NB.  Seems like several possibilities:

1.  I don't really have a clue as to CWT vs Auto-Spot and could use some
education.

2.  I've got something mis-adjusted in some menu.

3.  There is nothing wrong

I'd like to check off Auto-Spot as a function of my K3 that I finally
understand.

Re: K3 Auto Spot vs CWT

Fred, I find that Auto-Spot will find ever so slightly different frequencies
if you select it a couple of times. My favorite method is to use Spot alone, although
I'm hoping the Spot volume can be adjustable in the near future.  If I've the
Sidetone volume at the proper level, the Spot volume is too low.

Have fun,  Gary W7TEA
