[K3] CW Offset has two modes

alorona
Perhaps this may help some of those involved in a recent thread about offsets. I
don't believe it was ever mentioned.

The K3 can be set to two different behaviors.

For the following descriptions, assume that you are in CW mode and tuned
precisely to a signal at a sidetone frequency of 600 Hz.

1. When you switch from CW to SSB the receive frequency does not change, and so
the CW signal will disappear because it falls outside of your passband, on zero
beat with the SSB frequency. The indicated frequency will not change. This mode
is called "VFO NOR" and is the default.

2. When you switch from CW to SSB the signal stays in the passband at the same
sidetone pitch. To accomplish this the indicated receive frequency will shift by
600 Hz. This mode is called, "VFO OFS". I believe this is the mode probably used
by the guys who talk about CW in SSB mode on 6 meters.

To toggle between these two modes, go into the CONFIG menu: CW WGHT, and tap the
'5' key.
