As a former TS850 owner and a current TS570 owner, in addition to my new K3/100, I would agree that this functionality is needed. The knob on my former 850 was getting on the wobbly side after years of use for this purpose... Its extremely handy and would be a welcome enhancement of K3's tuning operation. My Kenwoods were always set to 5kHz, making it oh so handy to move inside the band with a quick twist. I miss this feature. Frankly, I would use the RIT knob for this and not B-VFO. It would also be nice if you could select which VFO the function would apply to with, say, holding the CLR button down or even adding the push-the-knob functionality of the "Control Quad" area to toggle between VFO A and B and (hopefully) the KRX3 as well. Left LED flashing would tally VFO-A delegation, Center VFO-B and Right, KRX3. I would vote for holding the CLR button to assign control at this juncture. 73 Lu Romero - W4LT K3 #3192 Date: Fri, 21 Aug 2009 15:09:38 +0000 From: [hidden email] Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Channel Hopping To: "Elecraft" <[hidden email]> Message-ID: <1185212658-1250867431-cardhu_decombobulator_blackberry.rim.net-1635776773-@ bda011.bisx.prodap.on.blackberry> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="Windows-1252" Just a simple channel hopping feature such as Kenwood offer on TS-870/850/690/680/450/440 etc, simple yet effective and functional, no button pushing multiple times or menu manipulation would be a vast improvement on what the K3 can do for all it's whiz bang gadgetry..... You know you can use the RIT knob as a fast band move knob with a simple
menu setting so that it works like the M.CH knob does on the Kenwoods. ~Brett On Fri, 2009-08-21 at 19:53 -0400, Luis V. That is at least for quick in band moves. Not for memory scrolling.

Not quite. I use the RIT knob set to 5 KHz steps all of the time, but it steps 5 KHz from where it's currently setting, and if that isn't a 5KHz multiple then it isn't the same as the Kenwood. Let's face it, on many bands these days we are almost channelized. The DX calls on 14.195 not 14.196789. With my Kenwood, if I'm listening on 14.003 and decide to check 14.195 I just turn the VFO CH knob and easily land on freq. BTW, the radio knows to change modes from CW to USB at 14.150. And if I think I may want to return to the CW freq, before moving I hit Quick Memory and it's saved and I can return to it with one button push. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I'd greatly prefer that the knob remains as is and I often call off on
weird frequencies just to try and keep ham radio a little more like ham radio and a little less like CB. ~Brett (KC7OTG) On Fri, 2009-08-21 at 19:49 -0700, Wes Stewart wrote: > > > --- On Fri, 8/21/09, Brett Howard <[hidden email]> wrote: > > From: Brett Howard <[hidden email]> > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Channel Hopping > To: [hidden email] > Cc: [hidden email] > Date: Friday, August 21, 2009, 7:41 PM > > You know you can use the RIT knob as a fast band move knob > with a simple > menu setting so that it works like the M.CH knob does on the > Kenwoods. > > > > Not quite. Yes, this is exactly the point. Moving the Multi/CH knob on my TS570 resets the vfo to 5kHz steps from wherever I was previously. That is handy for quick QSY.
Brett describes how I use the feature exactly (nice to know Im not unique!) -lu-w4lt-
