K3 Computer Interface

Can anyone comment on the relative merits of the
PowerSDR computer interface versus HRD?

Don,

One of these programs was hand-crafted by leading software specialists, the
other written by a grumpy old soul half-way up a mountain in Switzerland.

PowerSDR is not for the K3 - it's for SDR radios such as Flex or SoftRock.
HRD is designed for serial control of radios such as the K3. You will need a
serial port on your computer, a cable and a dash of Windows.

HRD is primarily rig control and PowerSDR is a DSP program for SDRs.  WU2X wrote a version of PowerSDR-IF that will operate on the K3's IF via LP-PAN.  However it requires HRD for rig control, so you actually run both simultaneously.  Eventually N8LP will publish LP-Bridge which will allow PowerSDR to directly control the K3.

For background on the LP-PAN:

To run any of the SDR programs (PowerSDR, CW Skimmer, Winrad) on the K3, you need the following:

KXV3 > LP-PAN > Sound Card > Computer > DSP software.

The specifics of the sound card and computer required vary depending on the speed and resolution needed.
