>>> Eventually N8LP will publish LP-Bridge which will

Any benefit? I have used PowerSDR a small amount with softrock and then switched over to Rocky. Also, I just read my QST last night, it has a review on Flex 5000. Read the ending paragraphs "is Flex for you?" It indicates that association with the PC is mandatory from the start and if you enjoy such things, Flex could be your Nirvana. K3 allows me to have a base radio, and then address the computer association later, if I want, and to the extent of my interest. It's also instant on. I consider these pluses, Ymmv, etc... ;-) [Elecraft] K3 Computer Interface Bill W4ZV btippett at alum.mit.edu Wed Jun 11 07:24:51 EDT 2008 wb8yqj wrote: > > Can anyone comment on the relative merits of the > PowerSDR computer interface versus HRD? > HRD is primarily rig control and PowerSDR is a DSP program for SDRs. WU2X wrote a version of PowerSDR-IF that will operate on the K3's IF via LP-PAN. However it requires HRD for rig control, so you actually run both simultaneously. Eventually N8LP will publish LP-Bridge which will allow PowerSDR to directly control the K3. http://www.wu2x.com/sdr.html For background on the LP-PAN: http://www.telepostinc.com/LP-PAN.html To run any of the SDR programs (PowerSDR, CW Skimmer, Winrad) on the K3, you need the following: KXV3 > LP-PAN > Sound Card > Computer > DSP software. The specifics of the sound card and computer required vary depending on the speed and resolution needed. 73, Bill -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/K3-Computer-Interface-tp17774355p17775332.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Hi Don. Yes, there are advantages to LP-Bridge. The most important one
is that it acts as a server for the K3. It allows multiple programs to talk to the K3 at the same time. Any program which can talk to a K3 can transparently do so through LP-Bridge using an easy to set up virtual com port. This means any logger, CW Skimmer, PSK programs, etc... all while providing a high speed computer interface to PowerSDR at the same time. Communication is bidirectional and simultaneous from all connected programs (up to 3 in the initial release). LP-Bridge will also provide more interface channels to PowerSDR, much faster software mute, better integration with the K3 for filter offsets, etc. I will be releasing the LP-Bridge beta as soon as Scott, WU2X is ready to release the next PowerSDR - IF Stage version. He is close to doing that, and has a working copy of LP-Bridge for testing. The version I showed at Dayton was actually mimicking HRD to be able to control PowerSDR, but that is not a viable version to release as it prevents the use of HRD. Scott's new version will have a HRD / LP-Bridge choice in setup. Your last paragraph is exactly why I bought a K3 and developed LP-PAN and LP-Bridge. I want it all... a high performance radio I can touch and feel, but all the computer bells and whistles as well. I guess I'm just another spoiled Baby-Boomer ;-) For more info, email me directly or post queries to the LP-PAN reflector at [hidden email] 73, Larry N8LP > > ------------------------------ > > Message: 8 > Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2008 08:44:12 -0700 (PDT) > From: Don Rasmussen <[hidden email]> > Subject: [Elecraft] K3 Computer Interface > To: "[hidden email]" <[hidden email]> > Message-ID: <[hidden email]> > Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 > > >>>> Eventually N8LP will publish LP-Bridge which will >>>> > allow PowerSDR to directly control the K3. <<< > > Thanks Bill, > > I have an LP-PAN coming. > > Assuming LP_Bridge comes along to allow PowerDSR to > control K3 - is there some great benefit over HRD? > > Any benefit? > > I have used PowerSDR a small amount with softrock and > then switched over to Rocky. > > Also, I just read my QST last night, it has a review > on Flex 5000. > > Read the ending paragraphs "is Flex for you?" > > It indicates that association with the PC is mandatory > from the start and if you enjoy such things, > Flex could be your Nirvana. > > K3 allows me to have a base radio, and then address > the computer association later, > if I want, and to the extent of my interest.
