K3 DATA question

VE3NFK
Hello

Playing around listening to PSK / Pactor some Hell  etc and works fine in both USB and DATA modes...

I touched my key by accident when in DATA mode; and I started transmitting what sounds like PSK...
I had to press the XMIT button to stop (first time I just powered off the K3)... I am using MultiPSK - but it makes no difference if it is running or not. (Doesn't do it in USB and CW works normally)

What am I missing?

Thanks and 73  John VE3NFK

Hi John,
I think your missing info on the K3 "CW-to-Data" mode function.

You can use data modes completely stand-alone (i.e., without a computer).
Just turn on text decode, and send CW using the internal keyer.  The CW will
be transmitted as PSK-31 or RTTY depending on which mode you selected.
(See page 34 of K3 Owners Manual Rev D4)

Re: [Elecraft] K3 DATA question

VE3NFK
Hi Frank

Thanks for the answer - but the text decode is not on - checked
that... in fact on 40 meters - it does NOT transmit .. but when I go
back to 80 it does - so there must be some setting I am missing...
