K3:DSP Upgrade well worth it

Craig-89
Hi folks

I just completed the DSP upgrade  board swap. I would just like to say that its well worth it.   The K3 sounds much better and smoother.

The first impression  that you get is that the receiver sounds calm and quite. The harshness and sharp sound has mostly gone. The receiver does  not sound like it has excessive bass, nor does it sound hollow  or mushy. The receiver sounds very much like a very good analog receiver. It actually sounds warm, rich  and very  pleasing to the ears.

So for those thinking  about it, I would recommend that you do  the upgrade. This upgrade would be  especially applicable if you have very good hearing and notice all these artifacts that many have spoken about..

I have not measured anything, these are just anecdotal observations. Some people might  say  that these claims amount to audiophile  voodoo, however I am not a ESSB freak!

Anyhow I am very happy with this voodoo upgrade!

Hi Craig,
Fully confirm your impression. Seems superior and weak signals ssb/cw more readible and less "agressive" to my ears.

Craig, Philippe and the rest of the gang,

I also upgraded last week and I can confirm Craig´s and Philippe´s comments. The K3 simply sounds much nicer, warmer and less annoying and especially SSB, which was quite unpleasant to my ears(and yes,I played around with the settings many hours),is now far better than my back up Icom 761 with JPS NIR-12
DSP.

Bill K9YEQ
The update has reduced the amount of "noise" my wife hears upstairs.  I know that sounds wild, but believe me it is totally worth it.  The sound quality of the radio with my external stereo speakers including subwoofer is very pleasant.

Anyone have any idea which bit of the complete upgrade makes such a significant difference..? I'm toying with the idea of the low pass filter part of the upgrade (K3DSPLPF) as I have no particular interest in enhanced low frequency response.

Or......has anyone fitted just the K3DSPLPF to an early DSP board and compared?

this is all I have done with my K3's and to my ears it's well worth
doing. Prior to this I had fitted a R/C Low pass filter to my headphones
because I found the HF artefacts irritating, i do have good ears though
