K3 Data Modes using SignaLink USB

VK7JB
I've been using my K3/100 with a Signalink USB for nearly 2 years and, once set correctly, the pair work flawlessly. The instructions for power setting in digital modes are repeated many times on this reflector and were hard to miss when I went looking for help.  Once you accept that it's the ALC that's set first, and that the power output is then controlled by the K3 power control, the setup routine is easy.

I wonder whether some creative YouTube videographer could document the setup routine for all to see? It would save a lot of typing and give newcomers a very clear set of visual instructions. I would have found that helpful.

It's a set and then forget procedure. Very simple, but the various gain settings are interactive so it seems a little tricky when you first set the ALC. But once set, it's done.

I monitor my IMD off air using the neat KK7UQ monitor and the IMD on PSK31 is -29 to -30 dB on my K3 @ 40W out.

I run PSK, Olivia modes and Hellschreiber and the K3/Signalink combo works FB for them all.

W4TV posted a good explanation of K3 power control in this message:

Wayne posted this message with explanation of the ALC metering:

The key to K3 power control is the Transmitter Gain Calibration,
performed on each band.
