K3: Drifting off freq., and not recoverable??? Help!

M. K. Hess
Hi folks,

I just got my K3 in the last couple weeks, and I'm noticing
something odd. If I tune into an HF station on SSB (for instance the
VFN on 3.947 LSB, or the hurricane net on 14.300), everything sounds
beautiful for a minute, then
everyone starts to sound as if I've moved off frequency.

However, I have not, and no amount of fine tuning will re-zero the other
stations.

If I power cycle the K3, let it sit a while, then re-power-up, everyone
sounds great again, but after some
seconds, they go back off into "Donald Duck" land. (I can actually hear it
drift slowly away!)

Almost seems like a thermal issue vs. some oscillator/filter?

Anyone else have this happen? Do I have a defective unit, a setting
incorrect, need a software patch?

I have re-loaded the unit w/ the latest SW as per elecraft's load
utility/web site.

The unit SN = 1291 and was built by Elecraft.

Any suggestions are welcome! Thanks,

Mike Hess
