That is exactly the same problem I am having. Further testing revealed that it is happening on CW as well as SSB on my radio. I haven't tried digital modes, but I suspect that it would do the same there as well. I don't always get the ERR FW2 when the transmit drops out as you described. It happens only 1 out of 5 or 6 times maybe. I have not tried using an older firmware version, but maybe that is the next step? Please keep in touch if you find anything out and I will do the same.

Aloha,
I have been having a similar problem, 15 seconds of normal operation on CW
then an audible relay click and RF power drops to zero, but the K3 remains
in transmit and goes through all the motions. However I have not received
the ERR FW2. Maybe it's time to try returning to an older firmware version?
