I just completed the assembly of K3 #919. It is giving me the dreaded ERR TXG message during the transmitter gain alignment. The synth and ref osc alignments went well. I went through the archives and have checked everything already mentioned. I am using FL-3 (2.7 5-pole with the -0.89 offset) as the CW transmit filter and cannot get any power output on any band. The KPA100 is not yet installed. I upgraded the software with no issues. The FM filter is in FL-1 and the AM filter is in FL-2. FL-4 and 5 have the 2 5-pole CW filters. I have the KBF3 and KAT3 installed also.
I switched the 2.7kHz filter to FL-1 and re-set the parameters with the same results.
It’s as if the rig was always in the “test” position. In fact, there is no difference between “normal” and “test” that I can tell.
I did have one issue during assembly. On page 28 of the assembly manual, it says to check the resistance of a mounting screw to a close-by via hole (the picture on the left side). On my board (which was rev B), the via hole was further away than in the picture, and I read a low resistance even without the mounting screw in the hole. I sent off an email but it’s a holiday weekend and so I continued.
I will discuss it with Elecraft support after the holiday but appreciate any input. By the way, the support that I have received so far from Elecraft (on the K3 and KX1 and K2 before) has been outstanding.
I have been really enjoying the incredible receiver, though. The combination of the filters, AFX, and NR is just absolutely amazing. Even in the "test" mode, I can tell that the QSK performance will be very good (slightly better than the K2).
Happy Memorial Day.
