K3 Encoder software problem?

alsopb
Ran into this interesting problem.  Encoder or encoder software?

K3 2.23/1.88 firmware   Don't know about the lastest beta.

While operating the rig, suddenly tuning across a CW note produced jumps in frequency rather than a smooth change.  The "speed" used was two digits displayed after the decimal point on the frequency readout.   This setting had never resulted in this "pan pipe" effect before.  Switch to "fine' and back to two digits after the decimal and the problem goes away.

Doing some digging, here is how it can be produced here.

1) While in fine mode, press and hold the "fine" button until one digit appears after the decimal point.
Tune across a signal and one hears the pan pipe effect.
2) Now press fine button until two digits appear after the decimal.
Tune across a signal and the pan pipe effect is still there.

In all cases going to "fine" with 3 decimal places solves this.  If one goes directly from the three decimal display directly to the the two decimal display all is always OK.

It seems like the 1 to 2 digit decimal change doesn't work properly.

Brian,

When going to the one digit tuning you are in coarse tuning mode and you should
expect that result.  Please check you RATE button while in 2-digit tuning.  When
you tap rate either the 100-Hz digit will flash or the 10-Hz digit.  When in the 10-
Hz tuning mode it will sound much smoother.

I have noticed the problem when changing rates in CW in 2.34.  There is a noticable sgnal jump or piping effect when tuning through the signal.

HI Greg,

I expected the pan-pipe effect in the 100Hz mode.

In the reported scenerio, after returning to the the 10Hz mode, tapping RATE shows the 10Hz digit flashing. Oddly after the RATE button tapped the "pan-pipe" effect disappears.   Until the tap, it was there.

Switching between the 100/10Hz displays with either the FINE button or RATE button does not show the effect.  It is only present when one goes through the 1 Hz display FINE button selection.

If this is all normal, so be it.  It is no big deal.

Brian,

You are only in FINE mode when 3 digits are displayed to the right of the decimal.

But...If you press FINE to exit fine tuning and are back to two digits on the
display and set for 10-Hz tuning, you should not be noticing the effect you
discribe.

You should not exit coarse tuning by tapping fine.  I'll try to look at the effect
of this later tonight when I am by the radio.
