Just preparing a station for the Centenary of Boy Scouts in a week or
two's time and remembered a real annoyance. The Kenwood HF rigs we use (you don't think I'm gonna let the young 'uns play with my K2 do you!) do not have any easy facility to allow both headphone and speaker simultaneously. Absolutely essential to allow the operator to accurately copy the other station whilst still allowing the 'audience' to hear the QSO. Be a really nice touch in the K3 if I can choose whether or not headphone insertion mutes the internal (or external) speaker. Hi Brian,
I have had a lot of comments from Boy Scout leaders about this device. I haven't had time recently to pursue it further. We have even considered using two for 8 outputs. http://www.pituch.net/p/Steve's%20Page/Radio/Audio%20Breakout%20Box/Audio%20Breakout%20Box.htm or drill down from www.pituch.net Regards, Steve, W2MY _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Total would be $40 for 8 headphone amps: http://www.bswusa.com/proditem.asp?item=HA400 We use these at Field Day and they work great. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. As you suggest, the capability will probably be available via a menu setting since many people do not want both active at the same time, most of the time. If the menu entry doesn't make the firmware at initial shipments, it will likely be added with enough customer interest. That's the great thing about easily downloadable firmware on the K3. Now, the engineers have another problem ... how to prioritize and implement all the requests! Trust me, there are a LOT of "requests" in the queue right now from the Field Test team. If this feature shows up in a Beta release prior to FCS, I'll try to remember to announce it here. 73, Ed - W0YK _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. The Kenwood HF rigs we use > (you don't think I'm gonna let the young 'uns play with my K2 do you!) :-) I know what you mean. I demo'd my k2 to Boy Scouts but had been apprehensive especially for that reason, but also worried that the smaller scouts wouldn't see what was going on if everyone crowded around the radio. So I used software control of the K2 and amplified the audio output, and the demo went over well. Of course, I gave a talk about ham radio and demonstrated examples of different modes, which I'll admit is very different from letting anyone sit there and use the rig. Software isn't always a perfect solution but might be for occasions like this. A snapshot of the projected image when I was getting things set up is at http://udel.edu/~mm/ham/elecraft/k2demo.png 73, Mike ab3ap _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. If it is menu selectable its even better. 73 de Björn /SM0MDG _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
