BTW, I've noticed that the SSB power bug is still there on K3 #2730, and
this was after reverting back to 4.14 73 de James K2QI On Thu, Nov 11, 2010 at 8:36 PM, Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> wrote: > Coming soon, It is currently in the hands of the firmware field testers. > > 73, > Don W3FPR > > On 11/11/2010 8:23 PM, Barry Simpson wrote: > > Has anyone any news on a replacement for the ill fated beta 4.18 (which I > am > > still currently using) ? > > > > Barry Simpson VK2BJ > > ______________________________________________________________ > > Elecraft mailing list > > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > > > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[hidden email] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > -- 73 de James K2QI President UNARC/4U1UN ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html

Something I've discovered; switching between antennas seems to affect power
output with 4.14. For example, I was able to get 100 watts out on ANT1 but switching to ANT2 on a dummy load only gave me 50 watts. Switching back to ANT1 then back to ANT2 brought power level back up to 100W. Any suggestions? Hi Lyle et all,
Sorry for the rapid-fire succession of email from me regarding this, but I've found a way to replicate the issue. I've noticed that when you reduce drive power so that the 10W amplifer is inline, then increasing drive back up to 100W, only 50 watts will initially be produced. Whistling into the mic while this is happening will show the output power slowly creep back up to the full 100W after a few seconds. I've never had this problem until now. I do recall others describing similar issues with firmware back in the 3.XX range. Performing the TX gain calibration does not fix the issue. I noticed a similar issue a couple of weeks ago during the CQ WW, with whatever firmware I last installed a few months ago. I was working my way slowly up the band calling stations and not retuning the ATU each time I called. Presumably because of the way the ATU stores settings per frequency which may not be correct for the antenna I am using now, every now and then I would cross a boundary to a new stored value and suddenly see a HIGH SWR warning and have to retune. After retuning the output was only 50W or so, but it recovered to full output after several seconds of calling.
My guess is it's a product of the fact that a lot of things in the K3 are controlled by software, which does not want to make sudden changes to things that would normally be expected to remain constant. It's just one of the quirks of the K3 that you get used to.

I had a similar problem. I returned from St. Croix on Wednesday where I had
antenna issues and had to use the ATU most all of the time. When I set up the K3 here in Ct. I noticed high SWR on 15 meters, where normally, with my steppir, there is no SWR. Shut off the ATU and everything was o.k. I literally Just finished resetting the ATU to bypass on all bands/mode and I saw your email..\ Bob, W1EQ -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Julian, G4ILO Sent: Friday, November 12, 2010 4:53 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Firmware I noticed a similar issue a couple of weeks ago during the CQ WW, with whatever firmware I last installed a few months ago.
