[K3]Friction spring

Martin
Elecrafters, i need to replace the WIDTH knob after 5 years. I found the
new knob came with a friction spring. The mounting procedure is covered
in the (new to me ) manual. This procedure works as long the spring sits
in the knob, but mine came with the spring separately.
How do i get the spring into the knob? I tried to push by hand and with
a tweezer and even tried to use a hammer. No chance. I will damage the
spring or the kmob if i proceed this way.
Anyone?

I checked some extra (replacement) knobs that I have in my collection.
The all have the metal insert already inside. I was able to remove one
of the inserts with a small screwdriver - there are three slots in the
rounded part of the insert, and I was able to pull it out by placing
the tip of the screwdriver there and pulling - then collecting it from
the floor under my bench :) Reinserting was very easy, with
needle-noise pliers. Obviously the flat side needs to be aligned when
inserting.

If yours doesn't insert easily, you may have a defective knob (or insert)
