I am using a Heil Pro set with a HC4 or 5 element and it sounds great when
hooked up to the rear input of the K3. If connected through the Microkeyer II and the front panel the audio sounds distorted. I have tried the High and Low settings in Main. I do not have a mic that I can hook into the front panel which makes it difficult to isolate. The Micro Keyer II was hooked up to my FT 1000MP and worked great. Any suggestions on where to go next? Mike,
If you have a serial no between 660 & 782 you need to do the mod for grounding the front panel mike connector. See link: http://www.elecraft.com/K3/k3_app_notes.htm Gill W4RYW

It would have been nice to know before I put it all together............
I guess it affects mics that don't require bias too. I will do the mod and let everyone know....After the weekend contest. -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Gill W4RYW Sent: Friday, June 13, 2008 7:48 PM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Front Panel mic audio issues with Microham MicroKeyer II Mike, If you have a serial no between 660 & 782 you need to do the mod for grounding the front panel mike connector. Gill,
It is at least from #656 because my unit was affected too. The mod is easy done with the instructions from Elecraft.
