[K3] Headphone imbalance

Barry
Odd, minor problem, wonder if anyone has any insight:
I have my headphones plugged into the back and leave them there all the
time.  When I want headphones only, I use a prgroammed macro in PF1 to
turn off the speaker.  When both speaker and headphones are on, and I'm
wearing the headphones, the left ear is significantly louder than the
right ear.  When I turn the speaker off, both ears are balanced.  The
headphones have a 16 ohm impedance.  Any ideas?
Tnx,
Barry W2UP

Nope! But at least I can confirm your findings Barry. I use the Yamaha
CM-500 and have stored my macro into M1. But yes, when I have the headphones
on and the internal speaker on, the left ear is significantly louder than
the right ear.
Having said that, the past two days I have been testing various settings for
AGC and various settings for PITCH. Oddly enough I no longer have that
imbalance in the headphones?

This is in some way related to SPKRS=1 ... I can duplicate it
if I set SPKRS=1 (internal speaker) but it does not happen if
I set SPKRS=2 (external speakers).

I posted a similar issue a few days back wondering if there was a
balance control as mine also has the left ear signficanlty louder than
the right.  I have used an equalizer from a sterio to deal with this but
it has problems when I am in TX so I can not use it.

I would be nice to have a software selection to balance this out.

I believe this is normal.

This normal if SPKRS is set to 1. Set it to 2 and you should have both when SPKR+PH is yes.

The manual says set SPKRS on 2 if using 2 external speakers.  I'm using the internal speaker.

SPKRS=2 is either  or both. See page 20 of the manual.

Is there any downside to setting SPKR to 2 if using the internal speaker?  I do have the subrcvr installed.

I don't think do. After owning my K3 almost 2 years, I haven't noticed anything. I've never hooked up external speakers. The internal one has been sufficient for me. I use headphones most of the time anyway.

The internal speaker is connected to the left channel, so anything you
have routed to the right channel will not be audible when listening to
the internal speaker.
