I have a non-Elecraft version of the Heil Proset. I've
received my first official compliment on the K3 audio quality (considering I don't have a clue what I'm doing, I was shocked). So, I want to keep the boom mike setup. My problem is that I find the phones way to bassy and muffled, particularly for CW. Are there alternative speaker replacements? I use a cheap SONY Walkman set otherwise and really like how they sound. Any ideas or suggestions? Try playing with the Receive Audio Equalization (EQ) settings described on
page 33 of the K3 Owner's Manual. Perhaps you can reduce the bass. Headphones sold for popular music will sometimes boost the bass a tad because that's what many people prefer when comparing headphones. Some CW operators prefer relatively low (200-600 Hz) CW notes, but this depends on individual hearing ability, experience, and preference.
