Oh boy....
After several emails with several folks at Elecraft (gosh, but they
are responsive!), it just became clear that the reason I could not
directly enter a discrete frequency into VFO B using the keypad/ENTER
key and retain the SPLIT function was due to (oh the shame), pilot
error on my part.
Here is how you do it. In the CONFIG menu, set SPLT SV to ON.
And that's all. Now the SPLIT function is retained even after I enter
a discrete frequency into VFO B using the:
HOLD SPLIT
Tap VFO A/B (to get into VFO B)
ENT FREQ
touch the keypad for the right frequency
Tap ENTER
Tap VFO A/B (so that I can again listen on VFO A and xmit on VFO B).
This information is in the owner's manual (rev C1) on page 52, but was
just a little to cryptic for me to follow w/o help from the Elecraft
team.
All good things come to those who wait (or who read the manual with
comprehension).
A HUGE THANKS TO THE ELECRAFT TEAM
