K3 Keyboard

N8XPQ
Has it been determined as to what type of keyboard can or will be able to be mated to the front panel connector on the K3 for "computer free" digital operations? I remember there being some talk about this a while back but haven't heard anything mentioned reference this in a while.

Early on it was suggested in a couple of posts by Wayne that a keyboard might be connected to the socket underneath the K3 that is used for engineering purposes. This idea has subsequently been downplayed by Eric, so I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it. I guess it would have to be some kind of dedicated unit, therefore it might as well be something that plugged in the back and spoke K3 command language.

I have just ordered an Asus Eee which is a cheap mini-laptop that runs a version of Linux. Though I didn't buy it for radio purposes, this would make a very nice solution for digital operations - not exactly "computer free" but then even your external keyboard would have a computer in it. I have already seen that someone has got digipup (http://www.w1hkj.com/flpuppy.html) running on the Eee.

I don't remember reading about it on this list, but the "NUE-PSK" modem
is also a good candidate for light digital operations.

It's at http://www.amqrp.org/kits/nue-psk31
