K3 Kit vs Ready Built

Barry Simpson
I am about to bite the bullet and order a K3. However I am not sure whether
to buy the kit or the K3 ready built.

I did successfully build a K2 some years ago and guess that the K3 build is
very much simpler.

Any comments on potential building pitfalls would be appreciated.

And from the appearance of the user build experiences, many folks are using
ESD mats for K3 assembly - and to minimize "shop rash."

Any recommendations for purchase?

Go for the kit! Unless you have eyesight problems or two left thumbs
you should have zero problems following the assembly manual.

I did the math, I saved $370.00 by screwing the thing together myself.
That's enough to pay for three 8-pole filters, or 92.5% of the cost of
the 100W PA.

Assembling the K3 is so simple a caveman could do it. It took me about
6 hours to build; if anyone doesn't have that small amount of time to
spare, how will they ever find time to *use* the thing? ;-)

Having two left feet and being unable to dance as well as two left
thumbs and inept at kits I'm glad to see the option of ready built. :-)

RE: K3 Kit vs Ready Built

Charly

I purchased factory built because if my kit had any problems,
shipping it back to the factory would involve
hundreds of usd $$$ and weeks of delay.

Shipping distance from me to factory:
about 12,700 KM. or 7,900 miles or
6,900 nautical miles.
ONE WAY.

Paul,

I am waiting for my K3 to arrive.  I ordered my ESF mat and wrist strap form
Compusa online.  They seemed reasonably priced

I went down to my local Shadio Rack and bought one of those ESD mats.  But
I can't convince myself that it works.  If I touch my meter probes to the
mat I measure infinity ohms, no matter how close together the two probes
are.  I know the meter works - If I hold one probe tip in each hand the
meter measures a few 10's of megohms.
