Everyone,
I have a K3 serial number 934. Having read the posts concerning all the problems with the concentric knobs I was concerned about the knobs but they were working fine. Well, several years later, finally the upper small outer knob (audio gain) became loose. After trying to tightening it, it split. This goes to show you ignoring posts can bite you later. Anyone having a older K3 and have the original concentric knobs better call Elecraft before you are left hanging with half a knob on one of your concentric shafts.
