K3 - Line In problem

Barry Pfeil
Hi Fred.  I have the identical setup working just fine.  I think you are almost there.  Probably what you missed is setting the "line-in" level.  It's separate from the mic level.  To do this, you have to select the MENU item "MIC SEL" and change it (with VFO A) to "Line In".  Otherwise, the Mic gain control adjusts (separately, of course) the gain for the rear panel (if you have "rph" selected) or front panel (if you have "fph" selected) mic inputs.

After selecting "line-in", adjust the line in level to get the ALC deflection you want using the Mic gain control.  You can do this all off-air by using "Test" mode.    After you have the line-in level OK for your N1MM/computer output, switch the MIC SEL back to "fph" or "rph" depending on where you want your "live" mic to go.  The mic gain control can then be used to match the "live" mic level with the recorded level.  Yep, it's way too complicated, but...  Please let us know if that fixes your problem.

Re: K3 - Line In problem

Barry, K6RM, got to me first and explained that the MIC gain separately
set the gain for front panel, rear panel, and line in, depending on what
you had chosen in MIC SEL.  It works like gang busters now.

Thanks Barry, and thanks to all who replied to me about this technical
problem in my mind.  It all makes sense once Barry broke the code for
me.  All I need to do now is record my SS messages, and I'm good to go
this weekend.
