Hello group,
Instructions for the AF output mod specify that: "This modification is needed for all K3s shipped approximately before 01/12/09 containing either a Revision "XB" or Revision "A" KIO3 board." I have a K3 #310 with KIO3A board Revision XD. The exact markings on the KIO main board read: KIO3A MAIN Rev XD (c) 2007 ELECRAFT The board did not have the 470R resistors installed, so I installed them according to the instructions on the Elecraft webpage. Now after the mod, audio output from the rear-panel speaker-jack is very low. I have to cranck up the AF volume pot up to about 2 o'clock in order to hear anything. So I'm wondering if this mod really is relevant for the KIO I'm having? Or perhaps I have missed something? Any ideas, anyone? BR, Kari oh2gqc |
Kari,
I would hesitate to install a mod that is specified for a Revision XB or Revision A board on a Revision XD board without specific information that the mod was also intended for that board. I would suggest removing the added resistors and ask the folks at K3support whether the change has been added to the Revision XD board. 73, Don W3FPR Kari Sillanmaki wrote: > Hello group, > > Instructions for the AF output mod specify that: > "This modification is needed for all K3s shipped approximately > before 01/12/09 containing either > a Revision "XB" or Revision "A" KIO3 board." > > I have a K3 #310 with KIO3A board Revision XD. > The exact markings on the KIO main board read: > KIO3A MAIN > Rev XD > (c) 2007 > ELECRAFT > > The board did not have the 470R resistors installed, > so I installed them according to the instructions on > the Elecraft webpage. > > Now after the mod, audio output from the > rear-panel speaker-jack is very low. > I have to cranck up the AF volume pot up > to about 2 o'clock in order to hear anything. > > So I'm wondering if this mod really is relevant > for the KIO I'm having? > Or perhaps I have missed something? > > Any ideas, anyone? > > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Kari,
The usual interpretation for the instructions you quoted has an implied ONLY. Do the mod for XB or A -ONLY- , nothing else. Circuits in later boards may contain the 470 or simply have different circuits. 73, Guy.
