K3: MH2 Mic

Phil Hystad
I just received the MH2 hand mic in the mail today for my rather new K3.  Can someone suggest some starting "settings" for mic gain and compression.  Right now, I have mic gain set to 5 and compression set to 4 but I really do not know how it comes across over the air.  I could monitor the signal but I would rather start off close to a good mix and then diddle with it from there once I find someone close to monitor my audio signal.

Thanks,
73, phil, K7PEH

Phil,

Adjust the mic gain until you have 5 to 7 bars indicated on the ALC
meter, then add compression as you desire.
You can use the monitor to listen on the headphones (just remember to
turn the monitor back down to zero to use the speaker(s) or you will
have a lot of audio feedback).

Re: K3: MH2 Mic

NZ0T
Here are the settings I use - worked out with a group on 1.947 that is very "up" on all that SSB stuff.

1    +4
2    +1
3    +1
4    +2
5    +2
6      0
7      0
8      0

Seems to need some help in the lower frequencies.  I also use a RatShack studio mic and it seems to need less highs also but not any bass boost.  I suggest you find a quiet frequency, a group of friends and work it out over the air.
