My K3 (just received) came with a note that said to download the
latest firmware before using it. Config menu says uC 1.78 / FW REV 5 I got through most of the process, but it won't finish. Here is the report from the K3 Utility: 08:47:53 K3 boot loader is ready for MCU firmware load. RS232 38400 bps. 08:49:08 K3 boot loader is waiting for MCU firmware load. 08:51:18 Connecting to ftp.elecraft.com. Please be patient, this takes a few seconds. 08:51:29 Connected to Elecraft server. 08:51:41 Copying files to "Windy HD:Users:windy:Library:Application Support:Elecraft:K3 Firmware:" 08:51:53 "hmcu0178.hex" verification succeeded 08:51:58 "TBOOT7.HEX" verification succeeded 08:52:09 "HDSP0158.HEX" verification succeeded 08:52:19 "HAUX0155.HEX" verification succeeded 08:52:36 "DTBL0008.HEX" verification succeeded 08:52:42 Copied "K3UtilityVersionInfo.txt" from Elecraft 08:52:48 Copied "hfwnotes.rtf" from Elecraft 08:52:48 Copied 7 files from Elecraft to "Windy HD:Users:windy:Library:Application Support:Elecraft:K3 Firmware:" 08:52:50 K3 boot loader is waiting for MCU firmware load. 08:52:50 Ready 08:54:42 K3 boot loader is waiting for MCU firmware load. 08:59:16 K3 boot loader is ready for MCU firmware load. RS232 38400 bps. That's as far as it will go after pressing "Send All New Firmware to K3". I'm using the KUSB adapter between my Mac (with current OSX) and the K3. K3 is turned on. I don't see any clues in any instructions about anything else I'm supposed to do. It's Saturday, so the factory isn't open. ? It appears that the K3 Utility is not communicating with the K3.
Try the Ports tab, "Test Communications" and you should get an informational screen indicating that the K3 Utility is communicating with the K3 at the same baud rate as you see when you examine the K3's CONFIG:RS-232 menu setting. The warning screen may indicate that the device your USB to Serial port adapter is connected to is just echoing whatever it sees, and that probably isn't a K3 with operational firmware in it. Check any port address choices you have to verify that the USB to Serial adapter port address is right. If you can't get through "test communications", you won't be able to load firmware. I'll copy David Fleming, the author of the Mac K3 Utility, on this note.
