Quick report on AntlionAudio ModMic:
I bought model 5 which has both omni and cardiod pattern mic elements. After a little K3 Manual study: page 55 for MIC SEL options I chose to try using the 3.5mm rear mic jack; ModMic comes with stereo 3.5mm so questioned if it would work in mono jack. tip = cardiod element ring = omni element base ring = ground I checked on-line to find that both require 1-10v bias so 8v bias from K3 works great MIC SEL: rP.L biAS tap 2 to toggle bias on tap1 was left in Low How to key radio: rear PTT IN (female RCA-Phono) not in use with my radio Alt key; My Heil CM10 desk mic has a breakout with 1/4-inch phono receptacle for a foot switch - used that (works whether front or rear mic selected) So I key the radio, observe ALC and RF power on a Bird and va la there is modulation. Level is higher with omni element selected. No "on-air" quality test at this point. I attached the boom mic to my "old trusty" SONY MDR-V600 stereo headset. Neat part is boom is held with a strong miniature magnet so easy to remove mic and store In nice foam zippered case supplied with the ModMic. Also has mic mute button and extension cord, spare stickered bases and cable clips. Next to test with KX3 (I will need four ring wye to two 3.5mm jacks extension - I believe obtainable from Elecraft). PS: CM-500 still in transit 73, Ed - KL7UW http://www.kl7uw.com Dubus-NA Business mail: [hidden email] ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Message delivered to [hidden email] |
Ed:
Also spend some time with the TX EQ settings on your K3. I had the help of a couple friends who know my voice very well. I don't remember the exact numbers but the 2 or 3 low frequency bands were rolled off a bit. I've used this mic in various contests for about 3 years. Always get positive comments about excellent audio. 73 charlie, k1xx/vp2mmf On 4/1/2018 3:44 PM, Edward R Cole wrote: > Quick report on AntlionAudio ModMic: > > I bought model 5 which has both omni and cardiod pattern mic > elements.
