K3 PA Power Loss with Subreceiver Install

David S. Mulvey

I installed the KRX3 (Subreceiver) to K3 S/N 3788 last night and it appears to work fine
(I completed all of the software steps in the manual) but I now have very little RF output when connected to a dummy load. The 100w PA doesn't appear to kick in when the power is increased above 12 watts; there is only one bar displayed on the power output
meter. The ATU relays click when activated but no SWR value appears.

I'm using the latest firmware and have double checked that all the pins
lined up when I reassembled the KRX3 and I checked all of my RF cables (I had elected to connect the cable from the the KAT3 J43 to the SubRx on J92). I had backed up my radio configuration using the K3 utility before I installed the KRX3. When I could not figure out why the PA would not develope any power, I restored my old K3 configuration (pre-KRX3) and the PA began to operate at high power again.

I am drawing the conclusion the PA is fine and the SubRx is also OK, however, I am not certain why, when I turn on the KRX3 in software, I loose the high power PA.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated about where to check next.

Thanks in advance your ideas!

Dave,

The first thing to try is to push the reset button on the back of the K3.

Don,

Thanks for you reply. The PA fuse was not blown. I have reviewed all of my software settings and still cannot figure out why I can't transmit in high power.

Has anyone on the list seen this with thier K3 with a KRX3 Sub RX installed?

Thank you
