Fan noise is quite low, especially when you have if off the same table as the rig, which is how I operate it. At the time I bought it, several years ago, it had one of the best reviews of several covered in QST for having no hash nor ripple. There is a more current review in QST with other supplies having a few more features, but this unit is light weight and very dependable. ...Edwin ____________________________________________________________ "Once you have flown, you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, there you long to return."-da Vinci http://bellsouthpwp2.net/e/d/edwinljohnson ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
For those bothered by fan noise, you might look into my fan speed
controller article in February QST (p 44). It's a very simple circuit that gradually speeds up the fan as the temperature rises. PC boards are available from FAR circuits or you can just breadboard it on a scrap of perf board. It was designed for the MFJ-4125 but should work with minor modification with any power supply that uses a 12V fan.
