K3 Power problem: won't shut down and blank screen on power on

Elecrafters:  Tech support at Elecraft is closed at the moment.  I had a nice QSO with W0YY a few minutes ago and when I went to shut down the K3, the "Power" button did not work.  Tried pushing it from a variety of angles, no dice. I powered down by turning my Astron RS-35M off - that did the trick!  After supper, I sat down for some 40 meter fun and, lo and behold, the power button worked BUT the display is BLANK…no K4TM welcoming message….TOTALLY BLANK!
Any ideas before Elecraft tech support comes on line for me about noon tomorrow?

F/Up on power problem:  My KAT500 is powered separately with a SEC-1223.  When I turned the SEC-1223 on to activate the KAT500,  my K3 display suddenly came to life and the power button works again - go figure!

Cary:  I think your problem may be related to the note at the top of page 10
in Rev B3 or the KAT500 manual.  It says

IMPORTANT:  If you are using the KAT500 with an Elecraft K3 transceiver
connected using DB15 cables as shown in Figure 1 or Figure 2, you must apply
power to the KAT500 before turning the K3 On.  If you turn the K3 on before
applying power to the KAT500 the K3 will not be able to initialize
correctly.

I had this same issue about a week ago.  I did call Electraft and they
asked me to remove the cover and check some voltages.   I knew the problem
had started when I was messing around with the rs232 connections, so I
thought I would undo the changes before I started working on the radio.

I think in my case it was a bad usb to rs232 converter because once I
eliminated the second connection to the amp the issue disappeared.  I have
not had time to try a different converter yet.
