K3 RTTY Data FSK D Mode

mtrager1
I was transmitting RTTY last night using the K3 Utility and was getting reports that my audio level was too high.  Another amateur was relaying the info to me as he was also trying to copy me!

Is there a way to adjust the audio level when using the K3 Utility and FSK D Mode on the K3?  What are the best recommended settings as far as baud rate and tones/ shift to use. I was using the highest tone and fastest baud rate.

Thank you,

73's Michael

There is no transmit audio level to adjust in direct FSK mode.

The tone pair makes no difference, it is only a matter of your personal
preference of the tones you prefer to hear while monitoring your
transmission, or listening to the other station's signals.

I suspect the problem is that you were running 75 bps (100 WPM) rather
than 45 bps (60 WPM).  The other stations were probably running 45 bps
and couldn't copy you.  They said, "Your transmit audio is too high" but
they meant, "Your signals are strong but we can't copy you."

Change your speed to 45 bps and try again.
