K3 - Recieve Audio Enhancement

Stewart Baker
Hi,
I have made a simple modification of my K3 to improve the receive
audio.

* It does not required any experience of SMD.
* It does not affect the warranty (A.F.A.I.K.)
* It can be easily removed.

re UP & Down features on mic

In reply to this post by Stewart Baker
Can anyone please enlighten me on whether the UP and Down feature on the microphone connect work against ground or +8 volts dc. Although I purchases the optional electret style of hand microphone, I much prefer a good dynamic microphone. I'm presently using the Shure 444D dynamic desk microphone with excellent transmit audio report. I've just tried a dynamic hand mic meant for the TAD line of commercial radios with also excellent transmit audio. This hand mic also has the UP and Down buttons so I would like to wire that feature but need to know as to whether it works against ground or + 8 vdc. I will be selling the factory electret hand mic for anyone interested.

Not sure off the top of the head but I'm sure that if you pull up a
schematic for a kenwood mic you'd get the answer.  I do know that that
is not yet implemented in the firmware.  I remember Wayne mentioning
that a while back and haven't seen it added in any of the recent
release notes.

Looking at the K3 diagram & a couple of Kenwood mics... UP/DOWN go to
ground.

The UP/DOWN buttons on the Kenwood MC-43S switch between VFO A and VFO B
on the K2.  I presume that the same will eventually apply to the K3 in
the interests of compatibility.
