Hi,
Is the factory on holidays or is it my imagination that I am not seeing much in the way of comments and or responses to several requests for minor changes to the FW? Seems like a couple of interesting changes are being sought by K3 users where as in the past we have had quick comments etc from the factory. I think the narrow Tx filter option seems reasonable to me and I think it would be very handy. Same with the straight key decode function, I too could not see why it cannot be activated in the FW. I also read comments on the P3 but nothing forthcoming from Aptos, or is it Watsonville now. Does anyone know when the P3 will be ready for release or is it being held up till Dayton. Sorry for the bandwidth but I am curious. 73's Gary VK4FD Sent via BlackBerry® from Telstra ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
They are not on vacation, Gary, but are very busy at the moment shipping
the back orders for the K144XV internal transverter which is many weeks behind schedule. At least one of these is recurring theme, reappearing from time to
time - the straight key decode (on sending) request. It's been the subject of threads in the past, one of which culminated in this response from Eric: http://www.mail-archive.com/elecraft@.../msg65027.html which is the last word from the factory that I can recall. This, and many other interesting discussions of old can be found "in the archives". Have you searched the reflector or the website for past communications on the topics that interest you? There are engineering reasons why you can transmit through some filters and not others. These are not firmware issues, they are RF design issues. Elecraft has very good engineers, and they tend to make good decisions. Vacation? Although I have no inside information, I'd bet that they're working on design and manufacturing of the P3, and on the ongoing upgrades to firmware. In case you haven't noticed, we're in a worldwide recession, and even the largest of companies are paying careful attention to their costs. Some have laid off people, few are hiring. Elecraft has a small team of very good engineers -- they're neighbors, so I know some of them. They're peddling as fast as they can, while remaining fiscally responsible so that they can stay in biz to support us, their customers. As to responsiveness -- I'd be interested to hear your experience communicating with engineers or management at Yaesu, Kenwood, Icom, or Ten Tec IN ANY TIMEFRAME. In the past month, I've exchanged four emails with Wayne Burdick on technical issues that concern me and that I felt should concern him. Both Wayne and Eric monitor this reflector regularly, and comment when needed to support their customers. They are the OWNERS, and Wayne is the chief engineer. Lyle Johnson, who is responsible for firmware, also monitors the reflector and contributes. Support is the solving of problems, NOT responding to wish lists, or providing personal answers to questions about delivery times of future products. Go to the website for that info. Or call the office during business hours. Yes, I see that you're in VK. I have that same issue with Yaesu, Icom, and Kenwood. :) 73, Jim Brown K9YC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Jim,
I suppose we are all so use to the extraordinary service given by Elecraft that sometimes we get greedy. This company is not going to be equaled and it seems the good Elecrafter people like the chatter from their customers. I am very much looking forward to the P3 but can well afford to wait while they perfect the product. This week one of my neighbours ordered his K3 after selling two other radios. The export market is growing for Elecraft. They are doing a fine job and we are fortunate to be using their products. Trouble is we have come to expect perfection. 73 Doug EI2CN -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Jim Brown Sent: 24 January 2010 18:20 To: Elecraft Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3 Reflector Traffic On Sun, 24 Jan 2010 10:01:05 +0000, [hidden email] wrote: >Is the factory on holidays or is it my imagination that I am not >seeing much in the way of comments and or responses to several >requests for minor changes to the FW? I think a little peace and quiet on the reflector is a good thing.
No traffic from the factory is a good thing, they are not sitting with their feet up and looking for something to do, so quiet means things are busy and moving along. I would like to mention I received my DSP upgrade board in Fridays mail, had ordered it on Nov 25 for those who are waiting and wondering. Install went swift and easy, a 30 minute job, and my old one is in the box and on the way back so someone else can get one after mines reworked. It took much longer to install the stainless steel kit I also ordered, Like to thank Elecraft for a super job of putting together a very complete kit of stainless for the K3. Being here in salt air my black screws were turning a slight brown already after a little over a year in service. Did a couple other mods to bring number 2603 up to the latest and greatest. Dont ask me if I have a new radio, some here have posted that after the DSP installation they had a new radio, sorry dont be influenced by that to buy the upgrade, I can hear lower audio tones better if I set the shift lower or the pitch lower, but I do not hear any real earth moving changes. I updated more to keep the K3 up to date for future sales, or other updates that may require the newer DSP board changes. If you have good hearing the high freq (15khz) noise is gone due to the filter board installed on the DSP board. If you are happy with the sound of your K3 as is, dont bother with the upgrade, you wont be working any new DX because of it. All in all another good job by Elecraft. 73 Merv KH7C ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Likewise here for 2680, I am not in a salt enviroment, just like stainless steel. I greatly appreciate being able to upgrade my K3. I am more convinced than ever this is a huge advantage. Nice being able to keep hardware up to date as well as firmware.
