I recently noticed some distorted audio on SSB, and tracked it down to something in the audio chain internally in the K3. I discovered that this noise is actually coming out of the K3 on SSB This noise occurs on SSB regardless of whether a Microphone or any audio inputs are connected. I have removed every single connection from the K3 except for the power and antenna connector, and this noise still occurs on transmit.
The noise takes the form of a very low level transmitted signal (perhaps 100 mW) that is similar to a buzzsaw.
The noise responds to the level of mic gain and compression levels. If I take either down to zero, the noise decreases considerably, but is not completely eliminated. I have tried to change the mic/line setting, the FPh or FPL setting, and my EQ settings to no effect. I am seeing the noise on another receiver in the shack, so I am sure it's a transmitted signal. It also responds to the power level, and disappears completely if I turn the RF power to zero, reappearing again around 100mW of output.
I can modulate this noise slight by tapping on the microphone connector.
I have been having a problem with lowered power on 6M as well - typically 80 watts or so, which I corresponded with K3 support about just recently. That may be irrelevant to this problem, but I think I ought to offer that as a data point.
Has anyone else experienced this, and if so, have you discovered a fix?
Thanks,
Harv
