K3 "SPKR+PH" Configuration

I'd hoped to use this configuration in the FL QSO Party next weekend so the driver could hear what was going on while the operator had the benefit of shutting out road noise with headphones.  Setting the option to "YES" does indeed enable the SPKR, but headphones change to sound in left ear only and AFX ceases to function.  Do other K3's work this way, or just mine?

Set SPKRS = 2 in the menu.
